Peer Academic Advisor

Irvine, Calif., December 1, 2009

I grew up in Westlake Village, California, and graduated from Westlake High School in 2007. Throughout my secondary schooling I actively volunteered in educational settings and served as a mentor in many leadership activities not only through my school, but also through the state of California.

I entered UC Irvine enthusiastic about all of the opportunities that college has to offer. I was eager to form strong bonds during my undergraduate studies while engaging in philanthropic endeavors so I went through formal recruitment and joined the Alpha Phi fraternity. I found my home away from home, my party posse, my study buddies, and my bridesmaids all in one place. I have become an active member of the chapter and have been honored to serve through various positions including acting as a leader on the 2009 Recruitment team as well as the Director of Publicity and Advertising.

Academically, I already knew that I loved and was very interested in concepts central to the Psychology and Social Behavior major, but I also quickly declared a double major with Criminology, Law and Society. Once I found out about the minor in Educational Studies I decided to enroll in that as well. To me, it has been love at first sight! I greatly enjoy the change of atmosphere in comparison to the traditional lecture setting of most college courses. I appreciate the team building and hands-on experiences that a small classroom promotes. Mostly, I find the chances to get involved irresistible!

I plan to make the most of my next two years here at UC Irvine! I hope to participate in Coach Tift's peer assistant program as well as doing research within the Department of Education. I am also a newly initiated member of Rho Lambda, Gamma Sigma Alpha, and Order of Omega. As a member of these Greek honors societies, I hope to further philanthropic efforts within the Greek community. More so, I look forward to traveling abroad to Israel next summer with a sorority sister.

I have just begun as the Peer Academic Advisor for the department and I know that this position is the perfect fit for me! The uplifting spirit and cooperative environment of the department facilitates a family environment. I love advising students about the minor and the opportunity to do so makes it a joy to come to work every day. I am appreciative of the opportunity to serve and I look forward to many wonderful experiences with the Department of Education!
