As part of the ten-year anniversary of the influential volume Community Programs to Promote Positive Youth Development, the National Research Council convened a meeting of national experts to discuss progress in the field of youth development over the past decade. The meeting was held at the National Academies in Washington, D.C. on May 2.
The 40 invited participants represented a blend of university researchers from across the nation and representatives of multiple departments in the federal government, leaders of national youth organizations, and funding agencies that have supported youth development research.
Associate Professor Joseph Mahoney was one of nine participants invited to present at the meeting and his talk, “What have we learned from youth development research and evaluations in the past 10 years?” over-viewed several theoretical, empirical, methodological, political, and practical changes in this field since the release of the aforementioned volume in 2002.
